Calibrating Clocks

In math we have been learning to calibrate "clocks" by using water, candles, weights and salt.
I found out that I was doing the experiment incorrectly as I added an extra hole and so the water flowed faster. When we discussed the investigation in a group, I leant that the number of holes stays the same and you change the level of the water. I learned that you could use a cup as a clock if you measured using a ruler and put marks on the side. I would say it was more of an approximate timer than an accurate one.

I feel our most successful "clock" was the pendulum as it took 5 seconds for 5 swings and 10 seconds for 10 swings. This pattern caried on up to the last swing, which was 20 seconds for 20 swings. In theory I think it would work for a minute, But I believe it wouldn't work for more than a minute as I think it would eventually slow down and stop. But it was the most accurate "clock" I have tried.
